Some project use different glazes and make intentional shapes with the various glazes in an attention to make the project appear smaller or larger than inThis is a plate that was thrown on the wheel and it has a foot ring. The diameter of the plate is approximately 6.5 inches wide. The plate has a bit of a square lip that folds up around the edge. half of the plate was glazed in white, the opposing half was dipped in cobalt blue and then half of the plate (containing a quarter white and a quarter cobalt blue) was dipped in light turquoise and the overlapping affect of the turquoise and the white was a light blue-turquoise color, and the turquoise and cobalt turned out a darker, blotchy blue. The transitioning color which are glazed to form a geometrical patter gives the plate the effect of having more surface area than it would appear if the plate was glazed entirely in one color.

Some project employ the use of contrasting or complimenting glazes to draw attention away from the actual form of a piece of art. This is small cylinder shaped vase that was altered after it was thrown. It is about 4 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, and it has a footed ring on its base. The outer and inner surfaces of the vase are smooth but the lip has been alter so that it undulates in and out, forming three loop like waves in the lip. Half of the vase was dipped in white and the other half was dipped in a new cobalt blue glaze. The two colors overlapped each other in about an a region in the center of the vase about an inch wide and the effect was a light blue glaze with darker blue specks in it. The transitioning colors of the glazes moving from darker to lighter draw attention from the actual form of the vase.

This is a medium sized pitcher that was thrown on the wheel and a pulled handle was slipped and and scored on. It is approximately 5.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide, not counting the handle. The outer and inner surfaces of the pitcher are smooth, it has a footed ring on its bottom, and its handle is thick and rectangular-ish.  The entire piece was glazed in white, and the top lip was dipped in shadow green about 2.5 inches down. The shadow green glaze bled a bit and turned into a more of a light turquoise blue.

This is a small vase wheel project that is also a wheel altered piece because of its lip. The vase is approximately 4 and a half inches tall by 3 and a half inches wide at the lip and has a footed ring. The outer and inner surfaces of the vase are smooth, but the lip has been altered to have a undulating wave appearance. The entire piece is glazed in a bright yellow glaze. The narrowing body of the vase in contrast with the flaring, undulating lip emphasizes the overall shape of the piece.

"More better" pictures to come! Promise!

Many projects employ the use of darker tones and horizontal lines to give the allusion of a project appearing shorter and wider than in reality. This is a wheel thrown cylinder that functions as a tall cup/mug. It is approximately 4 and a half inches tall by 3 inches wide at the lip. It has a small footed ring on its base and a small lip. The outer surface of the cup has ridges that emphasize the authenticity of the piece as well as its taller form. The entire project is glazed in a mystery glaze that turned out a darker green glaze much like shadow green but with hints of brown throughout its even consistency. The darker glaze in combination with the horizontal ridges on the outer surface of the cup, (caused by finger marks during pulling) give the allusion of the cup appearing shorter than its naturally tall and narrow form.

I apologize for the bad photo, there will be a "more better" one soon! I promise!
